ABOUT ABOUT

Skater passes will be available for sale until Friday May 12, 2017. Spectator passes will be available at the door.

Bay Area Derby Gold Nuggets: a series of coed junior roller derby clinics for youth ages 8 - 17.

DETAILS

Day 1 (5/13) at the Station focuses on skills and group work. Day 2 (5/14) at BAD HQ focuses on strategy and scrimmage and includes contact drills. Participation in contact drills will depend on each skater’s previous derby experience and their comfort executing basic roller derby skills. For those not ready for contact, alternate skill drills will be available.

Additionally, we’ll have a track available for juniors who are interested in officiating. Purchase the skater pass and specify on the survey if you’re interested in reffing instead of playing roller derby!

Skater passes includes 4 hours of on skates training each day plus free admission to our adult home team game on 5/13. During the BAD home team game, junior skaters will get reserved seating and a one-on-one time with a BAD derby skater for the entire game.

For skates and protective gear (helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads, mouth guard) visit Quad Republic Skate Co. online - a Bay Area based skate shop run by our very own All Stars & Bont Quadstars, Brawllen Angel & Stef Mainey.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

The Gold Nugget Clinics are intended for youth skaters who are 8 - 17. You don’t have to have roller derby experience to participate but you do have to be able to skate by yourself and have all required protective gear.

Skater participants are encouraged to assess their own skill level. BAD recommends using the following guidelines.:

  • New: You have not played roller derby but can roller skate without the assistance of anyone or anything.
  • Beginner: You have passed JRDA minimum skills, have skated in some scrimmages and/or games, still have a lot to learn on and off the track but are excited for new challenges.
  • Intermediate: You have passed JRDA minimum skills, can confidently skate and scrimmage, may be on your league’s B-team but are looking to progress to the next level.
  • Advanced: You have passed JRDA minimum skills, can skate confidently forwards and backwards and are on your league’s A-team.
