ABOUT ABOUT

Get good, be BAD.

Bay Area Derby presents a four session derby clinic aimed at getting beginner skaters ready for entry-level roller derby. At these clinics, we will teach you the minimum skills required to participate in our roller derby tryouts on July 16 & 17, 2016. The BAD Pre-Tryout Derby Clinic is geared towards beginner skaters who want to skate in a roller derby environment. We’ll break down the basics of proper derby stance, work on building muscles to maintain that stance, stopping techniques, fluid movement on the track, lateral movement, jumping and weaving. The latter part of the classes will focus on partner and pack work as well as contact and game aspects, including blocking and hitting.

Derby Clinic Sessions – Saturdays 11 AM - 1 PM –  6/11, 6/18, 7/2, 7/9

Open to women, ages 18 and over,  interested in playing roller derby. You must have a basic ability to: balance/roll/skate with no outside assistance; be able to stay active for up to 2 hours at a time; and exert yourself physically and mentally throughout the session. Attendance at every session is not required but highly encouraged as each class builds upon the previous one. No refunds will be given for missed sessions or drop-outs. We are limiting the clinic to 35 skaters in order to provide each participant with quality instruction and individual feedback. Register today to save your spot!

All Bay Area Derby Pre-Tryout Clinic sessions will be held at the BAD Headquarters located at 2635 Peralta St., Oakland, CA 94607.

Registration is $239 per skater, and includes current applicable WFTDA insurance

fees. The cost covers five 2-hour training sessions as well as the cost of tryouts. As an added bonus, skaters will be welcome to skate in our Reckless Rollers program until tryouts!

Starting June 11, practices will be held on Saturdays 11 AM - 1 PM. Please arrive by 10:45 AM to get gear on and warm up.
